5 Highly Toxic Plants To Avoid

In 2021, approximately 10% of calls made to the Animal Poisons Helpline were regarding plant exposures. Whilst there are a large number of plants which can potentially be harmful to pets, most exposures tend to result in only mild to moderate effects.

There are however some plants which can be very dangerous to pets, even after small ingestions. The infographic below describes 5 plants which pet owners should be particularly cautious with.

If your pet has ingested something they should not have, please phone the Animal Poisons Helpline 1300 869 738 (AU) or 0800 869 738 (NZ) for advice. The Animal Poisons Helpline provides a free service for all pet owners in Australia and New Zealand, and we can rapidly determine if your pet requires immediate veterinary assessment or can be observed at home.
